A Utrex client has a centralised bulk chemical storage facility for the off-loading and storage of bulk chemicals for use on site. The concentrated chemicals are distributed by pumps and pipework across the site to the point of use.
The bund, tanks and pipework are no longer fit for purpose and not compliant to current New Zealand Health and Safety Work Act 2015 (HSWA) which is applicable to all work and workplaces unless excluded.
The Challenge
- Demolish the existing facility, design, construct and implement a compliant storage facility for Nitric & Sulphuric acid, whilst ensuring continuous uninterrupted supply of chemical for the duration of the construction process. Install, certify and commission temporary/portable HSWA compliant storage tanks to allow uninterrupted chemical to plant for the duration of the construction process.
- Preliminary engineering and front-end design of the proposed compliant storage facility for the 10m3 Sulphuric Tank & 21m3 Nitric Tank.
- Facilitate a Design Review with the client and undertake a Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) of the proposed compliant system.
- Selection of key subcontractors.
- Environmental study, demolish existing, build new bunds and canopy.
- Select and procure tanks, pumps, mechanical equipment, instruments, electrical & controls.
- Commissioning & testing, complete the required documentation & handover.
- Deliver the project on budget and on time with zero incidents.
